Fake Invoice Scams

Fake Invoice Scams are major threat to Enterprises

Fake invoice scams continue to pose a significant threat to enterprises in 2024. A recent study highlights that cybercriminals are intensifying their efforts and refining their strategies.

These scams are particularly attractive to attackers targeting enterprises because many businesses manage and settle invoices via email attachments, offering a substantial potential return on investment for successful scams.

The study emphasizes one specific campaign where the WikiLoader malware was disseminated through emails with fake overdue PDF invoices purportedly from a logistics company. WikiLoader is known to use a PDF attachment with an embedded link that, when clicked, initiates the download of a ZIP file. This file contains JavaScript which then loads the malware onto the victim’s system.
